What Range Rivals is
Range Rivals is a training and competition app for shooting sports. It scores the drills you run, keeps a log of the guns you train with, and lets you compete with friends, teams, and the wider community on leaderboards, weekly challenges, and competitions. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, who can see it, and the choices you have.
When we say “Range Rivals,” “we,” or “us,” we mean the Range Rivals app, web dashboard, and this website, and the team that operates them.
Information we collect
Account information. When you sign up, our authentication provider, Clerk, collects your email address, your name, and the credentials needed to sign you in securely. If you sign in with Google or Apple, that provider sends us your name and email address (Apple lets you hide your real address).
Profile you create. A username, display name, optional profile photo, home range, shooting disciplines, and experience level. Everything except your name and email is optional.
Training data you enter. Range Rivals only knows what you tell it: the drills you run, your times, hits, and scores, and notes you add. If you keep a gun vault, each entry holds a name, make, model, caliber, optional optic and light, accessories, a round count, and the competition division it belongs to. Range Rivals does not ask for, and has no field for, firearm serial numbers, purchase records, or licensing information.
Range sessions. When you plan or join a range session, we store the session plan, who took part, the results, any notes, and a location if you type one in. Session location is free text you write yourself; the app does not attach GPS coordinates to sessions.
Competitions and challenges. Your entries, scores, and any video you choose to upload as proof of a run. Videos are stored so organizers and reviewers can verify results.
Teams and community content. Teams you create or join, team names and rosters, stages you design and publish, custom drills you create, and any reports you file about teams or community stages, or send to support about anything else.
Friends. You can find other members by their exact email address or username. If you allow contact access, the app reads your address book on your device to help you invite people; your contacts are not uploaded to our servers.
Payment information. If you subscribe on the web, Stripe collects and stores your payment details. We never see your full card number; we receive only your subscription status, plan, and billing period. If you subscribe through the App Store or Google Play, Apple or Google handle payment and share only the subscription status with us.
Founding Member requests and news. If you request a Founding Member code on this website, we store the email address you enter so we can send you the code and, if you use it, connect it to your subscription. Requesting a code also adds that address to our mailing list for occasional news about Benn Partners apps, as the form says. Every such email has an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time without affecting your code.
Device permissions. The mobile app asks for permissions only when a feature needs them: camera and microphone to record competition videos and scan QR codes, photo library to pick an existing video, location to tag where a video was recorded, contacts to help you find friends (on device only), and notifications so we can send you reminders and updates. You can decline any of these and still use the rest of the app.
Technical information. To keep the service running we receive basic device and error information, such as your device type, app version, and crash or error reports from the web dashboard. We do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics profiling.
How we use your information
We use the information above to:
- run the app and show your training history back to you;
- score, rank, and display results on leaderboards, challenges, competitions, and team boards;
- send notifications you have turned on, such as range-session reminders and friend requests;
- manage your subscription and apply the features your plan includes;
- send you a Founding Member code you request, and occasional news about Benn Partners apps until you unsubscribe;
- review reports, enforce our Terms, and keep the community safe;
- fix bugs and improve the service; and
- respond when you contact support.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your information for advertising.
What other members can see
Range Rivals is a social app. Some of your information is visible to other members so the competitive features work:
- your username, display name, profile photo, and membership badge;
- your scores and rank on leaderboards, weekly challenges, and competitions you enter, alongside the division and gun category you competed in;
- your name and results in range sessions you take part in, to the other participants;
- team names and rosters for teams you belong to; and
- stages and drills you choose to publish to the community.
Your email address, your full gun vault, your private training history, and your session notes are not shown to other members. Uploaded competition videos are visible to competition organizers and reviewers.
Service providers
We rely on a small number of trusted providers to operate Range Rivals. Your information passes through them only as needed to deliver the service:
- Clerk handles authentication and account credentials.
- Convex stores your training data, community content, and uploaded videos.
- Stripe processes web subscription payments.
- Apple and Google process subscriptions bought in their app stores and deliver the mobile app.
- Expo delivers push notifications to your device.
- Vercel hosts this website and the web dashboard.
- Sentry receives error reports from the web dashboard so we can fix bugs.
- Resend delivers the emails we send you, such as a Founding Member code or news you opted in to.
- Google Workspace handles our support and privacy email.
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our members or the service.
Data retention and deletion
Your data is kept for as long as your account is active so the app can function. You can delete your account yourself at any time from Settings in the mobile app or Account in the web dashboard. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. It removes your profile details, gun vault, training history, videos, friendships, and team memberships, and it deletes your sign-in account with Clerk.
Some records are kept in a form that no longer identifies you, so that other members’ results stay accurate: a finished competition leaderboard or range session you took part in will show “Deleted user” in your place, and stages you published to the community stay available with no author shown. Billing records are retained as long as tax and accounting law requires.
Pro and Ultra members can export their full training history as a CSV file from the web dashboard before deleting. If you cannot sign in, email support@rangerivals.app from the address on your account and we will verify the request and delete the account for you.
Your choices
- What you enter. A gun-vault entry needs only a name, make, model, caliber, and division; optic, light, accessories, and round count are optional, and you can train without recording a gun at all.
- Permissions. You can decline or revoke camera, microphone, photo, location, contact, and notification access in your device settings.
- Notifications. Each reminder type can be turned off in Settings.
- Visibility. You can report a team or a community stage in the app, and you can ask us to block another member so you no longer see each other across the app.
- Access and correction. Your profile, vault, and training history are editable in the app. For anything else, email us at privacy@rangerivals.app.
Security
We rely on industry-standard infrastructure providers for authentication and data storage, and data is encrypted in transit between your device and our services. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
Range Rivals is not directed to, and may not be used by, anyone under 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18; if you believe a minor has an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Where your data is processed
Range Rivals is operated from the United States and our providers store data there. If you use the app from elsewhere, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. If we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
